Mini truck per-km rate chart
Most mini truck quotes do not work as pure per-km billing from zero. There is usually a minimum charge, then a distance slab, then extras if the vehicle waits or returns empty. Keep that in mind before comparing two rates.
| Vehicle | Common use | Indicative per-km after minimum | Minimum trip note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tata Ace | Few items, PG goods | Rs 25 to Rs 45 | Short trips still have a floor charge |
| Bolero pickup | Compact 1 BHK | Rs 35 to Rs 60 | Rate changes with body type |
| Tata 407 | Heavy 1 BHK, light 2 BHK | Rs 45 to Rs 75 | Access and waiting matter |
| 14 ft tempo | Normal 2 BHK | Rs 55 to Rs 90 | Often priced as slab, not pure km |
Why minimum trip charge exists
A mini truck blocks driver time, fuel, vehicle availability and pickup coordination even when the distance is small. So a 3 km fridge move may still cost Rs 1,800 to Rs 2,500. This is not automatically unfair. It becomes unfair when the mover hides the minimum and adds it later.
Ask for minimum charge, included kilometres, extra kilometre rate and free waiting time in one written message. If helpers are needed, ask their charge separately. Vehicle-only rates do not lift your fridge.
Vehicle-only vs packers movers per-km
Mini truck per-km charge is mainly vehicle and driver. Packers movers per-km charge is broader. It may include packing material, labour, dismantling, loading, unloading, handling risk, GST, insurance and coordination. Mixing the two creates wrong expectations.
If you want full shifting cost, use packers movers per km charges. If you are checking the vehicle line inside a quote, use transport charges. Keep mini truck pricing separate from full mover pricing.
What changes the mini truck rate
Distance matters, but so do city traffic, pickup waiting, drop waiting, loading point, floor, lift, body type, fuel, toll and return load. A clear highway route with easy loading may cost less per km than a short move where the vehicle waits two hours outside a society gate.
Month-end, weekends and same-day booking can also push the price. During rain, closed body mini trucks can cost more because everyone wants protected vehicles. Ask whether the rate includes tarpaulin or closed body protection.
How return load affects the quote
If the truck can pick another job near your drop point, the mover may price better. If the truck must return empty, the return is often built into your rate. That is why Gurgaon to Noida, Delhi to Gurgaon and Noida to Ghaziabad local routes can show different rates even with similar distance.
Do not fight only on per-km number. Fight for clarity. Ask: minimum charge, included km, extra km, waiting, toll, helpers, packing and GST. That is how you avoid surprise billing.
Sample mini truck calculation
Suppose a Tata Ace job has a Rs 2,000 minimum for the first short slab and Rs 35 per km after the included distance. A 22 km move may not become Rs 770 because the minimum still applies. If two helpers are added at Rs 800 each and the truck waits one extra hour, the final bill can cross Rs 4,000 quickly.
This is why the cheapest per-km number is not always the cheapest move. The cleaner quote is the one that tells you the minimum, helper count, waiting rule and GST before the truck starts.
City examples inside NCR
Gurgaon to Delhi may have toll and traffic timing. Noida to Ghaziabad may look easy but tower access and lift slot can change waiting. Delhi local moves can require smaller vehicles because a bigger tempo may not enter the lane. The per-km rate is only one part of the job.
If your move is within Gurgaon, use truck and tempo on rent in Gurgaon. If you are moving a proper home, compare mini truck pricing with city charges before deciding that vehicle-only is enough.
Per-km quote questions to send on WhatsApp
Send one short message before booking: "Please confirm minimum charge, included km, extra km rate, helper count, waiting charge, toll, parking, GST and whether packing is included." This removes most day-of-move arguments because the mover has answered in writing.
If the mover replies only with a number, ask again. A rate without scope is not comparable. Two movers can both say Rs 35 per km, but one may include a helper and the other may be driver-only. That is a very different move.
When per-km pricing is the wrong way to think
For high-rise moves, stair carry, heavy appliances, fragile goods and long waiting, labour effort can matter more than distance. In those cases, ask for a job quote instead of only a per-km rate. It may look less neat, but it will be closer to the final bill.
Per-km pricing works best for simple point-to-point vehicle movement. The moment packing, loading, unloading or tower access enters the job, you are no longer buying only kilometres. You are buying time and responsibility too.
How to save safely
Club items into one trip, self-pack clothes and books, book a weekday morning, keep goods ready near the loading point, and choose the right size vehicle. The cheapest mini truck becomes expensive when it needs a second trip.
