Your existing bike insurance doesn't cover transit damage. Most bike transporters include basic coverage (₹20,000-₹30,000). For bikes worth more, Royal Enfield 650, Duke 390, or any imported bike, buy additional transit cover at 0.5-1% of bike value.

Most transporters quote a range (e.g., 4-6 days). Delays happen at state checkposts, especially on Gurgaon-to-South routes that cross Rajasthan. Build in a buffer day before you need the bike for daily commute.

Keep originals with yourself, not with the bike. The transporter needs a copy of the RC to prepare consignment documents, but originals should travel with you. Some state checkposts require original RC, give the driver a certified copy if asked.

Clean the bike (makes it easier to spot any transit damage afterwards). Drain fuel to 500ml. Remove accessories like side boxes, GPS mounts, and phone cradles. Deflate tyres slightly. Note down current odometer reading.

Inspect before signing. If there's damage, note it specifically on the delivery receipt and photograph it with a timestamp. Don't sign 'received in good condition' with any unresolved damage. Raise the claim within 24 hours.
